Rangers International Football Club of Enugu has acquired six new players to boost her squad to challenge for a top spot finish in the remaining part of the Nigeria Professional Football League 2023/2024 season.

The CEO/General Manager of Rangers FC Enugu, Amobi Ezeaku made this known on Tuesday while addressing newsmen in Enugu.

The new additions to the team include Uchenna Ezeala, a former Central Defender of Shooting Stars (3SC) Ibadan; Chidiebere Odo a returnee from a Saudi Arabia club; Rabiu Zulkifilu, a Supporting Striker from Lobi Stars of Makurdi; Ifeanyichukwu Aniji from Flying Angels FC Enugu; Kingsley Nebo, from Olicon Rovers FC of Enugu and Ogbodo Emmanuel from an Enugu based academy club.

According to the manager, the fresh legs would serve as replacement for the players like Jonas Emmanuel, Joel Okoro, Leonard Ugochukwu, Malachi Ohawume, Barnabas Ingya, and a few others that left the club for loan to other clubs in the NPFL and other lower division clubs in the country.

Amobi described the new players as quality legs that would help the coaching crew get the right selection to fight and challenge for trophies in both the NPFL and CAF competitions.

“We are glad we were able to complete these deals that would surely give our coaches enough opportunities to make selections that would help us challenge for honours this season and beyond.

“We went for experienced and youthful players and it is my belief that they will deliver the goods when it is needed,” Ezeaku stated.

The fresh legs have all been unveiled by the club and have joined the rest team members in training and preparation for the second stanza of the league which is billed to commence on February 14.

The Rangers FC coach Fidelis Ilechukwu sounded optimistic on the preparedness of the team for challenges in the remaining half of the 2023/2024 season.

He said the tactical mix of youth and experience will help the team confidently compete for trophies in the running season. “We expect a very tough and challenging second stanza with our eyes set on achieving our set target for the season,” said Ilechukwu.
