Nollywood Mourns Again: Veteran Actor Amechi Muonagor Dies at 61

Nollywood actor Amechi Muonagor is dead.

The veteran actor reportedly died on Sunday, after a prolonged battle with kidney disease.

Morris Monye, a social commentator revealed this on his X handle on Sunday, he tweeted, “Deeply heartbroken by the news of Amechi Muonagor’s passing.

“He was a talented Nollywood actor whose presence on our screens was truly masterful.

“We watched with concern as he battled health issues, offering whatever support we could to help him seek treatment in India.

“This tragic loss highlights the need for better healthcare in our country.”

This development was coming after a viral video of the thespian surfaced online a few weeks ago soliciting financial assistance for a kidney transplant in India.

The late actor and producer is well known for his comic roles in movies, especially as ‘Aguiyi’ in the Nollywood comedy movie titled Ukwa alongside other seasoned actors like Nkem Owoh, Patience Ozokwor, and a host of others.

Amechi has starred in a lot of movies which include: Taboo, Karishika, Igodo, Aki na Ukwa, His Last Action, Sincerity, Without Goodbye, Ukwa, Aki and Pawpaw, 2 Rats, My Village People, Issakaba, Police Recruit, Igodo, Meet the Inlaws, The Last Burial, My Inlaw, Village Boys, Big Man Brother, and so many others.

The Economics graduate of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) joined the Nollywood movie industry in 1998 after resigning from his job with the News Agency of Nigeria.

He was a nominee for the 2017 Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards for Best Actor.
