The Super Eagles of Nigeria yesterday dominated the Black Stars of Ghana to a 2:1 victory in an international friendly encounter following the international break of top flight football across Europe.

Nigeria found the back of the net in 38 minutes when Dessers Cyriel converted from the spot following a handball situation by the Ghanaians.

The Black Stars played the rest of the match down 10 men due to a straight red card shown to Jerome Opoku in the 56th minute.

Substitute Ademola Lookman increased the tally in the 84th minute giving the Eagles a two goal lead, however Ghana managed to pull one back in the 95th minute through a penalty kick converted by Jordan Ayew.

This would be the first international assignment and victory for the Super Eagles Interim Coach, Finidi George after the exit of the former Nigeria Head Coach Jose Pesseiro. The interim coach in his post match reactions expressed his delight in his players, especially the debutant Tanimu for getting the first win over Ghana in 18 years.

On the national stage, the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has two matches lined up for Saturday 23rd March. Kano Pillars FC will be playing hosts to Sporting Lagos at the Gen. Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.

The visiting Sporting Lagos will be going into the match on a 3:0 win over their hosts on November 6, 2023 and seated on the 11th position on the league table while their hosts Kano Pillars is on the 7th place.

Doma United in a Northeast derby will be battling their closest neighbours, Gombe United who fell to a 0:3 thrashing of Doma’s dominance on 5th November 2023. While Doma United occupies the 13th spot on the table, Gombe United is seated at the bottom of the relegation spot at number 20th.

On Sunday, 24th March, Rangers International of Enugu will be travelling to the Imo State capital on a fight for the top of the NPFL table should the league leaders, Lobi Stars fail to secure maximum points in her fixture with Bayelsa United. The Flying Antelopes will be hosted by Heartland FC of Owerri. Kastina United will play host to Abia Warriors; Kwara United will battle Enyimba FC of Aba; Lobi Stars will be fighting to maintain her grip on the zenith of the NPFL table when she battles Bayelsa United in Makurdi; Remo Stars will slug it out with Bendel Insurance; while the match between Sunshine Stars of Akure and Rivers United was postponed.
